I am at lost about what to write about for SF this year. 2008 was my first year participating in NaNo and this will be my first year in SF. With NaNo, I had a plot line all worked out in my head, and I followed it relatively well. Now, however, I have no idea what to do for SF. I briefly considered turning my NaNo into a movie, but decided it would probably not work out too well.

How do you guys decide upon what to write about?

How does anyone decide? Me... well, sometimes I have a weird dream that inspires me, sometimes I have a conversation with a weird phrase thrown in ("Get the dog out of your mouth NOW!"), or I roll on the plot machine on the Screnzy site...

What would you like to write? What would be so cool and awesome to write about?

Depends. Usually I'll just be living life, and a brilliant idea hits me. (Well, maybe not so brilliant, but I like it, darnit!) Sometimes I'll be playing a game or something, and a character I make really inspires me. This year, I had a few ideas I really liked, so I wrote them all down, thought them over, and picked the one that drew me in the most. (which was a vampire western.)

I have a notebook of ideas. Usually, I work on the last thing to pop into my head first, since it's the freshest and I tend to know where I'm going with it better, but then those times I run out of ideas, I refer to the notebook and see what I want to tackle. The one that inspires me the most is the one that wins.
